Overview
 
Xiaogang Kiln, named after its location, was founded in 1958,which was converted from Ceramic Specialty of Arts and Crafts Design Department, Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts. The full name of Xiaogang Kiln is "Ceramic Research Center of Design College".

 In 1972, based on the old kiln in Sculpture Department , Xiaogang Kiln was retrodden and changed to a down-draft kiln, with temperature of up to 1300¡æ and facilities for ceramic made. In 1975, a 200m2 ceramic workshop was founded. In 1990, with over 1 million RMB and other facilities donated by Mr.Zheng Shiyan, board chairman of Hua Dabao Ceramic Co., LTD(Macao), we expanded the ceramic workshop. By then, Xiao Gang kiln was developed into a ceramic research base with full range of facilities and resources that can make ceramic works and provide ceramic training.

 With so many people's efforts, including the professors, overseas exports, lecturers, students and ceramists of Xiaogang Kiln, we force our research on Chinese traditional culture and technique of ceramic, explore new techniques, and therefore came series of ceramic works, including the Song porcelain series, The Jun Kiln series, The Blue and White porcelain, etc. Most of the woks we made had won both international and national prizes, which prove Xiaogang Kiln one of the most influential kilns in the world.

As a important educating and researching base of the Design College, Xiaogang kiln undertakes the BA(hons) and MA(hons) courses of ceramics design in Industry Department, as well as optional course for the whole college and senior refresher course.

In 1978, approved by the National Education Commission, Xiaogang kiln has the powers of conferring its MA(hons) degrees, and in 1995, Xiaogang kiln began to offer MA(hons) courses and senior further education courses to foreign students.

Education Target
Our aim is to educate professionals in ceramic design that well equipped with theoretical and practical knowledge and skills, and manage to design, produce and research independently.

Specialty &Teaching Staff
Supported by the teaching staff in Industry Design Department, Xiaogang Kiln offer both BA(hons) and MA(hons) courses in Ceramic Design .

 Xiaogang kiln has fully equipped workshops for making ceramic products and ceramic art works, which offers students an excellent opportunity to experience a broad range of ceramic making processes. Depends on the course schedule, students can utilize our sharing labs like modeling studio, advanced computer lab, photographic studio, ceramic studio, etc., as well as three libraries between two school sites to assist your learning.

Degrees & Certificates
 We welcome applications for 4-year BA(hons) degrees and 3-year MA(hons) degrees in Ceramic Design pathway of industry design.
