Course Arrangement

Throughout the year1, courses concentrate on two abilities, "practicing" and "thinking". The two abilities will reflect as skill, knowledge, and creativity during courses. "Three major found ations" construct the course materials:

Theoretical foundation (knowledge)
Practical foundation (skill)
Integrated foundation (creativity)


 This whole year plan helps students build a basic platform.

We encourage innovation, foreseeing design concept, digital design method, hi-tech aided design exploration, crafts and skills, and real time problem solution to be taught. Based on this core concept, course framework will be as follow:

Theoretical foundation (knowledge)
Includes five core Courses: History of Design, Found ationof Design, Sociology of Design, Information Processing, and Aesthetics Psychology. The courses provide students a broad scope of knowledge, which prepare them for further theoretical research.

 Practical foundation (skill)
 Includes four corecourses: Observation Recording, Idea Expression, Graphic Language, as well as Space & Forms.

The courses are delivered using a range of workbased teaching and learning techniques to ensure students gain a practical skill platform ,in preparation for further specialist studies.

The sub branches are:
 A Foundation of Graphic Design:
 Observation Recording----to train students' ability in clearly recording the accurate detail, including analysis of life or objects.

 Idea Expression----communicate and express ideas through immediate sketching ,enhance students' ability in fast-thinking and presentation. Graphic Language----planar elements to visual expression conversion

 B Foundation of 3D Sculpting:
 Space & Forms----space and material will be the spoken language. Materials carry different meanings translated by space.

 C Foundation of Aiding Media:
 Hand craft skill----
combination of material and practice.
 Mechanical devices and fundamental computer application ----use computer as a medium to teach fundamental design software.

 3. Integrated foundation (creativity)
Fundamental skills and methodology of design will be taught during design and research process.

 A. Information methodology - information is selected and organized base on judgment and stand.

 B. Creative expression - use integrated skills to express messages and concepts.

3-year MA (hons) Courses
We pass on our courses in the way of one-toone tutorial system and small-group discussion, by which enhance students' ability to do academic research in a self-managed way. Supervised by the tutors group, students are demanded to finish 6 compulsory courses and 2 optional courses and get at least 60 grades within their first and second years, and then they can enter the metaphase selection process. Passing the assessment and the approval of thesis topic selection, they can continue to their final project and thesis, and gained their MA (hons) Degrees until they got at least 75 grade in these 2 main courses.
