Textile Design Program
 
 
Overview

Textile Design Program has a precursor, "pattern program" of art & craft department in South China Academy of Fine Art. When Guangzhou Academy of Fine Art was founded in 1958, yarn-dyed specialty of art & craft department has been set up then, which was one of the earliest design specialties within the Academy. In 1997, yarn-dyed specialty was merged
into Design College and became a program on textile
research and education, named "Textile Design Program".

Textile Design belongs to product design category and serves weaving industry, so it has much to do with the development of Chinese weaving industry. It is also close to other design specialties especially architectural & environmental design, industrial design, and fashion design.

Textile Design Program is based on textile surface design, and related to a series subjects like product design, interior design and home textile design. These textile subjects are complementary and benefit from their inter-relationship. Under this concept, we construct a versatile education framework that leads to high quality creativity and innovation.

 We are always looking to develop and enhance the way we deliver our courses. The course is defined by students' chosen project which becomes a vehicle for the development of their creative, self learning abilities, problem solving and analytical skills.

 We insist cooperation of teaching and practice, leverage product design to a higher standard, and promote practicability with market orientation. Our students will be able to collect and analysis information from the market in a selective manner.

 We advocate "live projects". During the courses, we invite highly experienced industry professionals to pass on invaluable "insider" knowledge to students on the latest technologies, techniques and trends. Therefore, students can gain a combination of practical and theoretical skills through this "live" projects, and well prepared for their future careers.

We continuously improve the course arrangement and develop new materials for our courses. Our characteristic courses like Fiber Art, silk screen printing, tie-dye, wax printing, hand paint, etc. are welcomed among students within the academy. Also, our high-class studios provide students with all sources available that lead them to high quality creativity and innovation in traditional crafts research.

Over the past few years, we have worked with many textile enterprises, by undertaking new product develop projects. Such as: carpet design for Guangdong Hall of the People's Great Hall; carpet and fabric arts design for the No.1,No.2and No.3 Buildings of Guangdong Zhudao Hotel, International
Conference Center of Dongguan Yincheng Hotel, Maoming International Trade Building, Dongguan Yuanchang Hotel, Guangzhou Nanfang Innovation Center of Nanhai Xiqiao Textile Town, etc, which received high social reputations.

Also, we encourage students to take part in a wide range related competitions and academic communications, by which broaden their scope and testify our education quality. From 2002 to 2005, we have borne fruits from many national and international competitions, which include 1 golden medals, 1 silver medal, 3 bronze medals, 15 special awards and 78 excellent awards, as a total of 115.The outstanding
performances of our students proved our excellence,and encourage us for a better.

Education Target
Basing on the South China, specially the mature textile and garment market of Pearl Delta, with prospective covering the whole country and the Southeast Asia, our aim is to educate qualified appliedtype professionals, who are competent in undertaking textile design, textile research, textile education and textile design management in the relevant fields.

Specialty & Teaching Staff
 By present, Textile Design Program mainly offers BA (hons) and MA courses in Textile Design. We have 5 academic staffs including, 2 associated professor (one of them is MA supervisor), 2 lecturers and 1 teaching assistants.

Resources & Facilities
We forge strong bonds with industries, the collaborating
practical bases with market leaders provide students an excellent opportunity to experience a broad range of industrial processes and gain skills, which improved their practical abilities.

We now have 4 best-equipped studios with total space of 1000 square meters, including interior textile design Studio, weaving studio, printing and dyeing studio and knitting studio.

Degrees & Certificates
 We offer both BA (hons) and MA(hons) degree courses to nationwide. Currently, there are 178 BA (hons) students1 MA(hons) student.
