Overview
Architecture & Environmental Design specialty was founded in 1986 and became a department named "Environmental Design Department" in 1996. In year 2004, based on its development, architecture design pathway was added to this Specialty. Being approved by the Academy, it was formally renamed "Architecture & Environmental Design Department" .
At the beginning when this specialty was founded, our teaching staff teamed up to found the "Guangdong Jasmine Design & Construction Company." It
was an exploratory project on relationship between
modern design practice and management , which was
the first one of this kind in arts institutes nationwide.
From then, a team of high professional
standards in combining creating, teaching and researching
has come into being, and played an important role
in Chinese architectural and environmental design
education. The awards and recognitions that our students
gained reflect our worldwide reputations for excellence.

We are always looking to develop and enhance the way we deliver our courses,
so many improvements and modifications have been made within these 20 years
and will be making in the future. Our emphasis lies on seeking to be at the
forefront of learning, creativity and practice. Making our designs work for
the society is our goal.
Education Target
Our aim is to educate diverse range of creative graduates in architecture, interior and landscape design, who are capable to work in a self-managed way to achieve original work of either a theoretical or practical or managing nature.
Specialty & Teaching Staff
By present, Department of Architecture & Environmental
Design includes 3 specialties, which are architecture design, interior
design and landscape design. We have 20 academic staffs including 2 professors,
6 associated professors, 6 lecturers as well as 6 teaching assistants,
and appoint 5 specialists who have worldwide reputations as our guest professors.
Degrees and Certificates
We offer two levels of education: honours degrees and certificated degrees.
1. Honours Degree Courses
We welcome nationwide applicants to apply for 4-year
BA(hons) degrees and 3-year MA(hons) degrees. Currently,
there are 240 BA (hons) students and 20 MA(hons)
students enrolled. Also, in the 2-year "postgraduate courses" that
held by GAFA , as well as the 3-year MA(hons)
courses, we
undertake the responsibilities in providing specialist education in interior and landscape design.
2. Certificated Degree Courses
At present, we offer to all over the nation 1-year senior further education and professional development courses, which aim at BA(hons) graduates who want to progress their abilities in practice. This oneyear program includes 8-10 courses. Students finish all courses with passing grades will get their certificates.
Resources & Facilities
Since its inception, department has attached much
importance to improving its facilities. And in pace
with the construction of Guangzhou College Town,
this improvement has been qualitatively done: we
have our vast-invested "architectural model studio;" each
specialty has realized multi-media support, that
an unparalleled environment with the best resources
and equipment available is come into being.
Besides, our department is equipped with wide range of specialist workshops
and studios to provide practicing opportunities for students. Students
can visit any workshops and studios of Jasmine Design & Build Company, and
get involved in the development of project work. Also, some of the awarded
works of our staff such as Guangdong Museum of Fine Art, Changlong Hotel,
Yujingwan Hotel of Dongguan, etc.,
are taken as the design education bases, by which students can get "real-time" experience
of different features of space design, and supply it to their future commitment.
