Future Prospect

GAFA sticks to its educational guideline of "becoming a top ranking state academy of fine arts , which is amalgamated into the Pearl River Delta, also has high reputation in South China, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and the whole Southeast Asia". And following this guideline, by the year of 2010 GAFA shall have over 5200 BA students, 510 MA students and 3000 further education students.

According to this prospect, the programme target of Design College is:
To strengthen the preponderant programmes, focus on building feature programmes, prop the uprising new programmes; to reform and integrate the programme structure into a system with spectacular features; to bring up versatile professionals who are marketoriented,
adaptable and practical.

In the process of building this system, we have to reform and integrate the programmes besides expanding them. Therefore, programme structures shall be broadened, adjusted and advanced. We are declaring the power of conferring master and bachelor degree on 5 subspecialties of industrial design, integral design, history & theory studies of design, fashion engineering and computer application. Besides that, we are applying for awarding doctorate in integral design, if successful, we will have the power to grant doctor degree in integral design by 2007. By the time of 2010, Design College shall have 20 mature bachelor programmes with amount up to 1920 bachelor students.

Goal details:
1.Goal for New programmes:
 During 2006 to 2010, Design College will set up 4 new programmes, as Toy Design, Jewelry Design, Transport Design and Exhibition Design, meanwhile, resume the Ceramic Design programme. By the year of 2010, more than 400 students will be recruited for these programmes.

2.Goal for present programmes:
 A. By the year of 2010, the present Architectural and Environmental Design Department will be expanded into Architecture Department (recruiting 120 bachelor students) and Environmental Design Department (recruiting 400 bachelor students).
B. By the year of 2010, the present Graphic Design Department will be expanded into Advertising Design Department (recruiting 240 bachelor students) and Graphic Design Department (recruiting 240 bachelor students).

To achieve this goal, the primary mission is to keep the faculty in sustainable developing. Therefore, Design College shall improve the faculty from four ways:

1.To build an exterior tutor team from the forefront of design industries, centering on studio project system. To promote the new "studio system",which means "responsible professor leading", "skill tutor on duty" and "exterior tutor for practice", realizing the intensive
education mode of sharing resources and projects. By the year of 2010, Design College shall have 50 exterior tutors.
 
2.To optimize the environment for tutors. In term of the tutor- student scale of 1/11, by the year of 2010, Design College shall have 200 full-time tutors.According to this schedule, we will hire 12 full-time tutors in 2005, 18 in 2006, 25 in 2007, 20 in 2008, 18 in 2009, 15 in 2010.

3.To stick with the fore of programme construction, focus on the building of course leaders and academic forces. According to t he goal of  programme constructions, import experienced professionals while
intensifying the existing teams, to realize strategy of building an excellent faculty by congregating elites.

4.To optimize the structure of the faculty by striking up lifelong talent cultivation system; to frame and consummate related policy, encouraging tutors to engage in master or doctor programmes, supporting them with fund; to improve the holistic quality of young and middle age tutors ,exert the human resource system.

Drawing the above into a coherent whole, in the future development, we shall stick with the forefront of programme construction, strive to set up more programmes with unique features, insist the Manufacture-Education-Research Cooperation, and enhance the holistic quality of design education and academic research. By all these means, build Design College of GAFA into an outstanding modern designer cradle of South China and make our contribution to the economic and social development.
