Directions
Though gaining all these achievements in the past two decades, Design College will not stop reformation. We have made our directions according to the aim of talent cultivation:
1 Integrate specialty pathways and push forwardthe harmonious development:
Reform the present specialties into three specialty groups as Space, Product and Visual.
Group A - Spatial Design: covering architecture, interior design, landscape design, furniture design, decorative art design and exhibition design (on schedule).
Group B - Product Design: covering industrial design, fashion design, fashion engineering, textile design, ceramic design, jewelry design (on schedule), toy design (on schedule), transportation design (on schedule) and integral design as well.
Group C - Visual Design: covering advertising design, graphic design, packing design, new media art design, as well as animation design.
2 Deepen the reformation of design foundation education:
The "Uniform Foundation Education" mode was founded and works well till present since the Foundation Programme was established. Boundaries between design specialties are no longer clearly defined and new and exciting directions are there to be explored. Through
the process of integrating and reforming courses such as sketching, colors, constructivism and computer application, we are giving the students the analytical, creative and technical skills necessary to respond to the contemporary challenges, thus following teaching
frameworks is coming into being:
A.training system of Design Innovation.
B.training system of Observing-Thinking-Practising.
C.training system of Designing in Restriction.
D.training system of cognition in Techno-Esthetics, Humanity appeals
Based on the above, the foundation courses were reformed in the manner of Dimension:
A. One Dimension (1D): training of text, script andstory telling
B. Two Dimensions (2D): training of illustrating with story, graphic and text; training of representing daily and non-daily scene and behavior modes with graphic story; training of expressing ideas.
C. Three Dimensions (3D): training of transforming between graphic and tridimensional
D. Multi-Dimen sions (Multi-D): training of generalized design ability about time and dynamic
3.Promote the diverse education mode relied on studios:
According to the talent-cultivating mode of "foundation education in
the 1st year, specialistic foundation education in the 2nd year, studios and
regular courses combined in the 3rd and 4th year", we are training our students
in the most diverse way, and gradually promoting project courses relied on studios.
Studios are in responsibility of course leaders, and shared across the specialties.
Also, faculty structure is highly active to encourage professionals from other
fields to join in. At the start of 3rd year, referring to students' course marks,
students and tutors can choose joining or taking in each other. By this time,
1/3 of the students will turn into studios, while others continue taking regular
courses.
